St. Mary’s River Lighthouse Cruise

Experience a Lighthouse Cruise with Soo Locks Boat Tours. Enjoy riding through the Soo Locks and navigating in the St. Mary’s River. Explore this important waterway and see the variety of navigation markers leading ships to the Soo Locks from Lake Superior.

Your boat will cruise past the lightkeeper’s residence at Cedar Point which is still fully intact though unoccupied, and is owned by a private individual. You will also view the remains of the original lighthouse on Round Island. Your boat will then head for Bay Mills Point and cruise along the shoreline to give you an up-close view of the cottages and residences leading up to the Point Iroquois. You’ll get a sailor’s-eye view of the very picturesque, fully restored Point Iroquois Lighthouse and lightkeeper’s residence built in 1871. As the boat turns you can look out into Whitefish Bay and marvel at the expanse of Lake Superior, the largest fresh water lake in the world.

Next you will be heading into Canadian waters and viewing the Gros Cap Reefs Lighthouse, which is only accessible by boat. This is a Canadian owned and operated automated lighthouse. Other points of interest on the tour include the historic pumping station at Sherman Park, the Lakeshore-Shallows area, the old United States Coast Guard lookout station, the Pointe Aux Pins Range Lights, and getting a close-up view of the Canadian shoreline by Pointe Aux Pins where there are summer cottages, year-round homes and beautiful beaches; and the American shoreline from Bay Mills Point to Point Iroquois. Weather concerns may dictate which points of interest can be visited. In this event, other points of interest or an alternate Lighthouse Cruise will be substituted.

Your cruise vessel is a U.S. Coast Guard inspected 280 passenger capacity ship. Amenities include an enclosed climate-controlled lower deck with snack bar and rest rooms. Box lunches can also be provided with advance notice!
